Slicer Softball beats Michigan City

La Porte Varsity won big over Michigan City 16-2 on Tuesday. La Porte got on the board in the top of the first inning after Allie Wiencek singled, scoring one run, and Madi Squire hit an inside the park home run, scoring three runs. La Porte scored five runs on five hits in the top of the second inning. Shayla Sorg tripled, scoring two runs, Wiencek singled, scoring one run, and Paige White singled, scoring one run. La Porte added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Megan Zolvinski doubled, and Sorg singled, each scoring one run. Marcella Bearickx earned the win for La Porte. Bearickx gave up three hits and two runs (one earned) over three innings, striking out seven and walking two. Mia Maxel tossed two innings of no-run ball for La Porte in relief. The reliever surrendered one hit, striking out six and walking none. La Porte collected 18 hits in the game. Lauren Poe made the most of their chances at the plate. Poe led the team with four hits in four at bats. Squire and Sorg each drove in three runs. Wiencek and Reghan Stephany each collected multiple hits. La Porte was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error.
