The Slicers traveled to Valparaiso today for the DAC Championship Meet. LaPorte had some outstanding swims. Leading the way was Freshman Jakob Schroeder, who won the 100 Backstroke in 52.48 seconds. The Slicers opened the meet with a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with: Schroeder (backstroke), Abbas Hakim (breaststroke), Otto Wildhart (butterfly), and Chaise Adrian (freestyle). Their time was 1:36.26. With crazy fast splits all around, their time is within .8 seconds of the school record. The quartet of boys hope to take that relay to the High School State Championship after Sectionals. Fresh off of the relay, Chaise Adrian swam a lifetime PR of 1:49.70 in the 200 Freestyle. Gavin Crail swam a lifetime PR in the 200 Individual Medley, breaking the 2 minute barrier, going 1:59.73 for third. Hakim was 4th in 2:01.21. Otto Wildhart finished 8th in the 50 Freestyle, in 22.61, and had a fantastic 100 Butterfly, to finish 2nd in 52.88, just getting out-touched for 1st. Adrian stepped up again, and finished 3rd in the 500 Freestyle, matching his Sectional best time from last season, going 4:54.90. The 200 Freestyle Relay of: Crail, Wildhart, Allen Fuller, and Roman Garay finished 4th, in a second best time. Diver Andrew Hayes finished 5th, with a total of 307.75 points. Abbas Hakim went 59.52 in the 100 Breaststroke, to finish 2nd with a season best swim. Gavin Crail finished 5th with a lifetime PR of 1:01.87. The Slicers finished the meet with a 4th place finish in the 400 Freestyle Relay behind: Adrian, Schroeder, Crail, and Hakim. Their time of 3:18.28 is a second best time for them. Most of the meet, it was Valpo, Lake Central, Chesterton, or LaPorte in the top 3-4 spots on the awards podium. The Coaches and I couldn't be prouder of what this team accomplished today. Big Slicers shoutouts go to the following swimmers, who had some fantastic swims, and achieved lifetime PRs: Chase Childers: 100 Freestyle Malachi Talbos: 100 Freestyle. Caleb Johnson: 50 Freestyle & 100 Butterfly Milo Jimenez: 500 Freestyle. Karter Griffin: 200 IM & 100 Backstroke.
