LaPorte Slicer Varsity Loses Despite Out Hitting Valparaiso Vikings By GameChanger Media Even though LaPorte Slicer Varsity collected nine hits to Valparaiso Vikings's five, they still fell 7-5 on Tuesday. Cody Benedict led LaPorte Slicer Varsity with three hits. LaPorte Slicer Varsity got on the board in the first inning after Joey Kirk singled, scoring one run. LaPorte Slicer Varsity committed an error, which helped Valparaiso Vikings tie the game at one in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second, LaPorte Slicer Varsity broke up the tie when an error scored one run. Then a single by Benedict followed to extend the lead to 4-1. Valparaiso Vikings flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 6-4. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two. Trent Gill hit a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth for the Valparaiso Vikings. Noah Sena earned the win for Valparaiso Vikings. The pitcher allowed seven hits and four runs (zero earned) over six innings, striking out four and walking one. Nate Moses took the loss for LaPorte Slicer Varsity. The hurler went four and one-third innings, giving up five runs (three earned) on three hits, striking out seven and walking four. LaPorte Slicer Varsity tallied nine hits in the game. Benedict provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led LaPorte Slicer Varsity with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 3-for-4 on the day. Jon Rinkel collected two hits for LaPorte Slicer Varsity in three at bats. Gill led Valparaiso Vikings with three hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Ben Glass stole two bases. LaPorte Slicer Varsity will travel to Valparaiso Vikings for their next game on Wednesday.
