Colin Wathen Drives 4 Runners Home In La Porte Slicers JV Victory Over South Bend Adams Junior Varsity Eagles

Colin Wathen drove in four runs on one hit to lead La Porte Slicers JV past South Bend Adams Junior Varsity Eagles 17-0 on Friday. In the fifth inning, Wathen singled, scoring one run. La Porte scored nine runs in the fifth inning on the way to victory. Jayden Proffitt singled, scoring two runs, Madix Splix singled, scoring one run, Eli Combs singled, scoring two runs, Wathen singled, scoring one run, and Proffitt singled, scoring three runs. The Slicers opened the scoring in the first after Wes Kaiser hit into a double play, but one run scored. La Porte added to their early lead in the top of the second inning after Wathen grounded out, and Ryan Kavanaugh singled down the right field line, each scoring one run. The Slicers scored five runs on two hits in the top of the third inning. Combs was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Wathen hit into a fielder's choice, but two runs scored, an error scored one run, and Ian Mitchell singled, scoring one run. Nolan Darrell earned the win for La Porte. The starting pitcher gave up four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking one. The Slicers piled up 10 hits in the game. Proffitt led La Porte with three hits in four at bats. Darrell collected two hits for the Slicers in four at bats. Kavanaugh paced La Porte with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting eight walks for the game. Kavanaugh and Darrell each stole multiple bases for the Slicers. La Porte stole eight bases in the game. The Slicers didn't commit a single error in the field. Kaiser had the most chances in the field with nine.
