Lansing Catholic's Leland VanAlstine has been named the Lansing State Journal Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year following a remarkable 2025-26 season. VanAlstine established himself as one of the top hurdlers in Michigan, capturing Division 3 state championships in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. His success extended beyond the state finals. At the Greater Lansing Honor Roll Meet, VanAlstine finished as the runner-up in the 110 hurdles and placed third in the 300 hurdles. He was also a key member of Lansing Catholic's All-State 4x800 relay team. Throughout the season, VanAlstine posted the fastest 110-meter hurdles time in the Greater Lansing area and ranked second in the area in the 300-meter hurdles, cementing his place among the state's elite athletes. The Athlete of the Year honor is a fitting recognition for an outstanding season and a testament to the hard work and dedication Leland displayed throughout the year. Congratulations, Leland, on an incredible season and this well-deserved honor!
