LSJ Athlete of the Week Nominee Leland VanAlstine Caps Career with Two State Championships

Lansing Catholic senior Leland VanAlstine capped off an outstanding high school career by becoming a double state champion at the MHSAA Division 3 Track and Field State Finals. Competing against the best hurdlers in Michigan, VanAlstine delivered two championship performances to close out his final season as a Cougar. In the 110-meter hurdles, he raced to a state title in 14.19 seconds. He followed that performance with another championship in the 300-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in a season-best 39.00 seconds to secure his second state title of the day. The achievement marked a fitting conclusion to an exceptional senior season. Throughout the year, VanAlstine consistently ranked among the top hurdlers in Division 3 and helped lead Lansing Catholic to numerous team successes. 📸: Lansing State Journal
