Lansing Catholic Repeats as Softball Classic Champions

Lansing Catholic softball is once again the Softball Classic Champion, capturing the title for the second consecutive season after defeating Grand Ledge 7–6 in the championship game. The Cougars put together another impressive tournament run, defeating Fowler 11–1 in the quarterfinals before earning an 8–5 semifinal victory over DeWitt to advance to the title game. Several Cougars delivered standout performances throughout the tournament. Zoey Gruber was dominant both in the circle and at the plate. Across 22 innings pitched, Gruber recorded 24 strikeouts while allowing just 9 hits. Offensively, she totaled 7 RBIs, 5 runs scored, and 5 extra-base hits, including 3 doubles and 2 home runs. Her outstanding play earned her Game MVP honors in both the quarterfinals and semifinals. Avery Dunneback, an LSJ Athlete of the Week nominee, continued her stellar season by collecting 5 hits, 5 RBIs, and 4 extra-base hits, including 3 doubles and 1 home run. She was named Game MVP in the championship game after helping lead the Cougars to the title. Taylor Dunneback added another strong offensive performance, recording 6 hits, 4 runs scored, and 2 RBIs during the tournament. Alyssa Laconte also played a major role in the championship run with 5 hits, 5 RBIs, and 2 runs scored.
