LC Continues Promising Spring in the DAC

Lake Central's spring sports teams continued their red hot spring earning Duneland Athletic Conference victories in girls' track & field, girls' tennis, boys' golf, baseball, and softball. Those 5 programs sit at the top, or near the top, of the conference as we hit the home stretch. Volleyball was idle Tuesday night but they've already won the DAC title. G Tennis @ Lake Central Varsity Lake Central 5 Portage 0 The Blue Indians hosted the Red Indians last night and won 5-0 at both the JV and the V levels. The Indians are now 10-1 overall and 4-0 in the DAC with 3 left to play in the conference. V--LC 12 Chesterton 1 The softball teams picked up 2 wins on the road at Chesterton last night. The JV ran their record to 16-2 and the varsity moved to 20-3 overall and 10-0 in the DAC, controlling their own destiny in the league. Jada Lewis got the start and worked 3 strong, and Maddie Such earned the win throwing the final 4 innings. The dynamic duo combined to fan 15 Chesterton hitters and only allow 4 hits (all singles). The offense rebounded pumping out 15 hits. Kate Renschen, Lexi Iwema, Taylor Schafer, Madi Bickell, Kaitlyn Streiler, and Peyton Martin all had 2 hits. Ava DeNormandie threw a 3-hit shutout striking out 8 in the JV game. The Indians had 14 hits, 5 of which went for extra bases. Piper Urbanski, once again, led the Indians with 3 hits. Aubrey Richardson, DeNormandie, Cali Ramirez, and Reagan Equihua all had multi-hit games. Richardson had 2 of the 5 extra base knocks. Both teams are back in action tonight against Portage at Lake Central. They're now 16-2 overall. JV (White)/JV (Blue)/V Baseball @ Portage JV White--LC 14 Portage (5 inn.) JV Blue--LC 12 Portage 0 (6 inn.) V--LC 8 Portage 2 All 3 teams took care of business against Portage last night. Josh Flores was the winning pitcher on the road tossing a career high 6.1 innings and fanning 12. Flores only allowed 2 hits in the win. The Indians offense was efficient scoring 8 runs on 10 hits. Parker Robinson led the way with 2 hits and a double; Tyler Colburn and Jacob Zimmerman each had 2 hits. Victor Villegas drove in 2 runs and Drew Kosteba and Dylan Hein each scored a pair. The Indians are now 15-3 overall and 9-0 in the DAC. The Lake Central JV Blue Indians defeated the Portage Indians 12-0 in 6 innings on Tuesday evening. Owen Kopercinski threw 6 innings of 2-hit ball, striking out 9 Portage hitters. Anthony Sanchez, Brayden Walls, and Jacob Forystek each had 2 hits for the Indians. The LC JV White Indians defeated Portage 14-0 in 5 innings. Benny Tobias, Adrian Claussen, Matt Tuftedal, and Alek Pohrte each had 2 hits. Mateo Kluga went the distance surrending 1-hit and punching out 9. Boys' Golf @ LaPorte's Beechwood Golf Course V--LC 162 LaPorte 180 JV--LC 167 LaPorte 201 Lake Central beat LaPorte at Beechwood Golf Club to move to 3-0 in the Duneland. They'll play at Scherwood Golf tomorrow against the Michigan City Wolves and Merrillville Pirates (host). Tyler Morton had the low round of the day firing a 38. The boys hosted Crown Point and were defeated, as we celebrated 20 fantastic seniors and their families on senior night. The girls hit the road and beat the host Bulldogs to finish the regular season slate 6-1. Both teams will compete in the DAC Championships next week. The boys will host the 2025 Duneland Championships and the girls will travel to Valparaiso. The girls trail Valparaiso by one in the standings and will have a chance to leapfrog the Vikings by winning the conference meet. Both teams had several great performers last night. The girls' meet was highlight by Macey Thompson's school record setting 800M run.
