The girls' cross country team culminated a magical season with a 3rd place overall finish, at the Lavern Gibson Championship Course, for the IHSAA State Finals. This was the best team finish for Lake Central since the 2007 and 2008 seasons when they finished 2nd each year. Impressively, Lake Central achieved this feat with only one senior, two sophomores, and four freshman. Three LC runners made the top 25 podium, which earned them a medal. Sophomore Macey Thompson (DAC/Sectional/Regional Champion/school record holder) finished 4th overall with a time of 17:36.7. Freshman Lana Bruggeman finished 15th with a time of 18:06.5, and sophomore Chloe Neal ran an 18:14 for a 24th place finish. Other scorers for the Indians included freshman Aubrey Neal in 65th and senior Mackenzie Smith in 144th. Roxann Martinez (9th) finished in 175th and Katelyn Smith (9th) finished in 231st respectively. This was one of the greatest seasons in Lake Central girls' XC history. The girls won several invitationals, hosted and won the Duneland Athletic Conference Championships, won the Sectional Championship at Highland, and won the Regional Championship at New Prairie. Congratulations to our runners and coaches and good luck to those seniors that are departing. The future is very bright for this group.
