It was a busy evening for Lake Central Athletics, highlighted by the boys' tennis team defeating Portage in straight sets and girls' volleyball team defeating Merrillville in straight sets. Frosh football also defeated the visiting Crown Point Bulldogs. Varsity girls' soccer fell at Hanover (2-1) but the JV was victorious. Boys' Tennis: Lake Central 5 Portage 0 #1S: Ethan Cordova (LC) def Nolan Sheets (P) 6-1, 6-1 #2S: Tony Zervos (LC) def Michael Bourge (P) 6-1, 6-1 #3S: Joe Rieger (LC) def Kyle Georgie (P) 6-4, 6-2 #1D: Eli Morey / Brandon Baker (LC) def David Lopez / Cameron Enright (P) 6-0, 6-1 #2D: Wade Smith / Keri Conrath (LC) def Kayden Loeva / Paul Baum 6-2, 6-0 JV Lake Central 4 Portage 0 Girls' Volleyball: LC 3 Merrillville 0 The LC Volleyball program bounced back last night with a 25-17, 25-23, and 25-12 sweep against DAC opponent Merrillville. The JV also was impressive and won 2-0. Kailey Skurka led all hitters with 13 kills Lexi Iwema chipped in 7 kills , 7 aces, and 13 digs Brooklyn Barth had 14 digs Lily Barth and Lauren Smith combined for 24 assists Girls' Soccer: Lake Central 1 Hanover Central 2 Bella Soria scored the lone goal which was assisted by Leah Rocha. Olivia Pelot contributed 8 saves in goal. JV: LC 8 Hanover Central 0 Goals: Kiki Celeski (4), Parker Reddick and Lexi Karabotsos (2), Larissa Krespo (1) Assists: Parker Reddick, Mia Karabatsos (3), Ashtyn and Lexi Karabatsos (2), Kiki Celeski (1) Freshman Football: Lake Central 12 Crown Point 0 Lake Central Freshman football defeated Crown Point 12-0. Lake Central was led by a strong defensive performance that provided the shutout. Jonquil Sharpe led the Indians on defense with 9 tackles, Michael Green, Scout Polletta, and Matt Tuftedal chipped in 5 Tackles as well. Tony Peterson had an interception and recovered a punt block from Jonquil Sharpe. Offensively the Indians were led by Jonquil Sharpe and Matt Tuftedal in the backfield. Jonquil Sharpe accounted for both Indians rushing touchdowns on the night. Michael Zillinger led the Indians in passing, completing a few deep balls to Mason Jessie and Michael Green. The Indians travel to LaPorte next week.
