Boys' DAC T/F Championships: Lake Central's youth showed up and many PRs were hit; unfortunately, the Indians finished in 6th overall. With some starters returning from injury, LC hopes to close the gap next week in sectionals. Full Results: https://www.tfrrs.org/results/86457/m/Boys_DAC_2024 Varsity Baseball: Lake Central took 2 from Portage on a special senior night that recognized 9 incredible young men and their families. Game 1: The Indians struck with 2 in the first and never looked back. Blake Sivak was great in the start tossing 6 innings and striking out 8. Alex Cuevas closed the door with a scoreless 7th. Nick Robinson had 2 hits, scored 2 runs, and had 2 RBIs. Drew Kosteba added a pair of hits. Griffin Tobias led the way with 2 hits and 3 RBIs, including a homerun. Game 2: Grant Mercer, Collin Cirks, Luke O'Keefe, and Zachary Nicola combined for a 4-hit shutout to lead LC to a 3-0 victory. Mercer was the winning pitcher going 4 innings with 7 Ks. The Indians could only muster 2 hits falling victim to 14 punch outs. Lake Central is now 13-7 overall and 9-3 in the DAC. They'll host the Region Classic in conjunction with Munster this weekend. LC opens play against a good Lafayette Harrison team Friday night. JV Blue Baseball-Lake Central won convincingly over Portage 10-3. Ethan Chapman earned the pitching victory and Anthony Sanchez worked two innings of scoreless relief. Tyler Thuftedal was the offensive leader going 3-3 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBIs. Keegan O'Bryan, Drew Jakubowski, and Nolan Maurer each had 2 hits. The Indians are now 14-4 on the season. JV White Baseball-LC pounded out 14 singles and a double to score 21 runs. The boys scored more than 4 runs in 4/5 innings. John Rozanski was the winning pitcher in relief of Logan Barbush. Connor Friesema had a 5 hit performance, the only 5 hit performance for an Indian, at any level, this season. Benjamin Balog also had 3 hits. Varsity Softball-The nation's #8 team remained unblemished with a 10-0 victory over Merrillville. They're now 27-0. Jolie Adams tossed a no-hitter, striking out 9 and walking 6. Kate Renschen, Adams, and MaKayla VanVossen had 2 hits each. Mackenzie Calinski had 3 hits and Kaitlyn Streiler led the way with 4 hits. This sets up a showdown with Illinois power Marist on the road on Monday. JV Softball-The girls ran their record to 19-2 overall with a 13-0 victory over Merrillville. Allison Meseberg was the winning pitcher, striking out 10. Teagan Tripp fanned 3 in her one inning of relief. She also led the way with 3 hits and a triple. Sofia Beals was 2-2 with 2 doubles. Meseberg, Addison Doloszycki, Olivia Hurubean, and Abigail Grenchik each had a pair of hits.
