The girls’ tennis team started their season 2-0 with a 5-0 victory over Lowell last night. The Indians defeated Kankakee Valley on Saturday. This year, a hungry Boone Grove team came to Lake Central looking to avenge their loss. The Wolves were dominant and won the first two sets 21-25 and 22-25. The Indians played a dominant third winning 25-20, and then, won the 4th setting up the winner take all 5th set. LC was terrific in the final set: They defeated Boone Grove 15-9, after it being tied at 8 points a piece. The Indians were led by Danny Smith’s 16 kills; Keri Contath’s 12 kills; Teo Olmstead’s 11 kills; Juan Flores' 27 digs; and Brady Cook and Nelko Dragulsi's combined 53 assists. The Indians will travel to Valparaiso today to try to remain unbeaten overall and in the Duneland (9-0/6-0). Varsity Baseball Moves to 2-2 in the DAC The Indians started conference play 0-2, but they have quickly righted the ship. After a win on Saturday against highly ranked Noblesville, LC resumed conference play against La Porte. The Indians earned a tough road win on Tuesday, defeating the Slicers at Schreiber Field 4-2. They returned home yesterday and won a thriller 7-6 as La Porte recorded the final out of the game at third base. LC held a 7-3 lead heading into the final frame. LC is now 5-2 overall and 2-2 in the DAC. They'll travel to Michigan City Tuesday before hosting the Wolves on Wednesday, and then, host Penn in a twin bill on Saturday. Tuesday, Game 1: Owen Kopercinski earned his first varsity win on the mound, tossing 4 innings of 2 hit baseball, Kopercinski did not allow a run. The Indians mustered just 6 hits with 5 of those coming from the 3,4, and 5 hitters. Brayden Walls added 2 hits and Jake Forystek also had a pair of hits, including a double. Connor Friesma also doubled. Wednesday, Game 2: Marc Passo was excellent on the bump. He threw 5 strong innings allowing 3 hits and 3 runs. Passo only issued one base on balls. Anthony Sanchez led the offense with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Andrew Brower added a triple and scored a pair of runs. Softball Continues its Impressive Win Streak and the Offensive is Alive and Well On Tuesday, the Indians traveled to Chesterton to take on the Trojans. LC ripped 9 extra base hits, including an impressive 7 that went for homeruns. Lexi Iwema remained on fire after a torrid 3-game set this weekend where she homered 5 times. Iwema added 2 more blasts in this one. She also added a double, scored 3 runs and drove in 5! Maddie Such homered twice and drove in 5. Emma Wilkin, Sofia Beals, and Madi Wainright also had long balls. Piper Urbanski set the table reaching base all 4 times in the lead-off slot (2 hits and 2 walks). Colbie Tressel was the pitcher of record, and she combined with Sophia Cembala and Jada Lewis to defeat the Trojans 17-4. On Wednesday, LC hosted Portage in the second of back-to-back DAC games. Again, the Indians pounded out double digit hits with 13 in the five inning game. Jada Lewis was the pitcher of record tossing 4 strong and Such closed the door in the 5th. The Indians ran their record to 8-0 overall and 4-0 in the DAC in the 13-1 victory. The offense remained the story: The Indians added 7 more extra base hits. Once again, Iwema homered and drove in 2. Kaitlyn Streiler (2 hits, 2 runs, 3 RBIs) and Beals also homered. Beals also drove in 2 and added 2 hits. Such and Urbanski added 2 hits and 2 RBIs. The Indians are set to host the Eddies from Edwardsburg, MI on Saturday in a double header. Boys' Golf Opens Home Slate with a Triangular Victory The Indians hosted sectional foes, Highland and Munster on Tuesday. The varsity boys beat Highland and Munster at our home course today. The JV team came in second place only 3 strokes off of the varsity's score. The golfers head to Municipal Golf Course this weekend for the Marquette Invitational. LC was victorious over La Porte 87-45, and they were defeated by Merrillville 86.33-45.66. The events below will be highlighted by LC runners or field event participants that scored and finished in the top 3 in their event. The Indians defeated Merrillville 77-55 and La Porte 113.66-18.33. Below will showcase the point scorers for LC.
