Red Devil Softball falls to New Albany

Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils lost the lead late in a 3-1 defeat to New Albany on Thursday. The game was tied at one with New Albany batting in the top of the fifth when an error scored one run for New Albany. The pitching was strong on both sides. New Albany pitchers struck out two, while Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils sat down six. Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils got things started in the second inning. A sacrifice bunt by Andrea Campbell scored one run for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. New Albany evened things up at one in the top of the fourth inning. New Albany scored one run when Kaylee DeMuth singled. Eavie Smith was the winning pitcher for New Albany. The ace went seven innings, allowing one run on three hits and striking out two. Bailey Shafer took the loss for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. The pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on five hits, striking out four and walking zero. Shafer, Bethany Clarke, and Ashlyn McClure each managed one hit to lead Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. Cheyenne Palmer led New Albany with two hits in four at bats.
