Wednesday's game against Charlestown Varsity Pirates was a heartbreaker for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils, as they lost the lead late in a 7-5 defeat. Charlestown Varsity Pirates was down 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning when Hannah Burns singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring three runs. Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils lost despite out-hitting Charlestown Varsity Pirates 12 to nine. In the first inning, Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils got their offense started when Emma Borders singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. In the top of the third inning, Charlestown Varsity Pirates tied things up at two when Addison Smith singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run. Burns earned the victory in the pitcher's circle for Charlestown Varsity Pirates. Burns went seven innings, allowing five runs on 12 hits, striking out 14 and walking one. Bailey Shafer was on the rubber for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. The bulldog lasted five innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out five and walking one. Borders threw two innings out of the bullpen. Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils scattered 12 hits in the game. Aubrey Cannon, Borders, and Andrea Durbin each had multiple hits for Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils. Cannon led Jeffersonville Varsity Red Devils with three hits in four at bats. Charlestown Varsity Pirates tallied nine hits. Olivia O’Neil and Aiden Stewart each racked up multiple hits for Charlestown Varsity Pirates.
