Friday - April 7th, 2023 The Boys and Girls track teams hosted the 5th ranked Bulldogs of Columbus last night in a dual meet on a chilly night at the Jeff High Track and Field Complex. Outnumbered to a traditional powerhouse did not daunt the Red Devils as they fell to the Bulldogs 75 - 57 on the boys side and 72 - 56 for the girls. The boys were led by sprinter Jeremiah Browwn as he easily won both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. "JB" is chasing the 42 year old 100 meter dash record of 10.1 set by Jerome Harrison in 1981. Other notables on the boys side were first place wins by Lazarus Weobong in the 110 hurdles, Don Starling Jr in the 400 meter dash. The boys also won the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The girls team was once again paced by sophomore star Mariah Smith. Mariah pulled off 2 individual wins in the Long Jump and the 200 Meter Dash while also anchoring the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams to victory. Arielle Phillips also had a string performance by winning the 100 hurdles, the 800 meter run and a 2nd place finish in the mile. Other notable performers were Dakota Sims with a win in the 100 meter dash and Alaysia James winning the 300 hurdles. Freshman Marly Jones had a strong night as the opening leg for both the 4x100 and 4x400 relays and a solid 2nd place finish in the 100 meter dash. The Red Devils will be back on the track next Tuesday the 11th as they host the Ballard Bruins and the Floyd Central Highlanders.
