Lady Devils go 1-1 at Ben Davis Holiday Tournament

The Lady Red Devils headed to Ben Davis on December 27th to play in the Holiday Classic. The Devils faced Warren Central the first game of the day, coming out to a slow start the Lady Devils went into halftime down 23-19. Despite coming out more aggressive in the second half the Lady Devils fell short with the final score of 56-49. Makenzie Mason led the Devils with 21 followed by Lakyra Johnson who had 14. Other scorers were Elle Marble (9 points), Keziah Renee’(3 points), and LaQaya Gold (2 points). The second game the Lady Devils faced host Ben Davis. Off to a slow start and struggling offensively the Lady Red Devils only scored 9 points in the first half. 5 being scored by Johnson. The Lady Devils were down 18-9. Coming out the second half the Lady Devils were able to outscore Ben Davis 7-4 in the third quarter. To start the fourth quarter the Red Devils trailed 22-16. Ava Scott had a very big role on the Lady Red Devils coming back, going after rebounds and playing great defense, along with scoring a few very important baskets in the fourth quarter. The Red Devils tied the game with 26 points a piece with very little time left. When LaQaya Gold was fouled and sent to the line she was able to make a free throw that won the game for the Lady Devils. Leading the Devils was Lakyra Johnson with 11, followed by Ava Scott who had 5. Other scorers included Elle Marble (3 points), Amiya Calloway (3 points), Makenzie Mason (3 points), and LaQaya Gold (2 points). The Lady Devils are currently 8-7, they will head to Center Grove Friday December 29th for a Holiday Tournament.
