In a thrilling display of athleticism, the Jeff Varsity Boys wrestling team brought their A-game to the 22nd annual Jeff Duals. Building on their recent victories over Scottsburg and Corydon, they opened the night with a resounding 77-5 win against Providence. The Red Devils showcased their dominance, securing six pins and a major decision, with standout performances from Honecker, Stellato, Stivers, Northern, Slaughter, Santos, Smith, Cooper, Hobbs, Williams, Shewmaker, Prinz, and the #8 ranked Ben Land in the heavyweight division. However, the night took an intense turn in the second round when they faced off against the #4 ranked Tell City Marksman. With the team score hanging in the balance until the final two matches, the scoreboard ultimately favored Tell City with a score of 46 to Jeff’s 29. Despite the loss, individual victories from Land, Stivers, Santos, Smith, and Cooper showcased exceptional skill and determination. John Stivers notably stole the show with an impressive showcase of technique, executing five takedowns in the opening period. Meanwhile, the women’s team, led by Sian Rogers, Lynn Padgett, and Kaylea Beauchamp, secured victories against Bardstown KY, Eastern KY, and Henryville IN, adding to Jeff’s overall success. Looking ahead, the Red Devils brace themselves for an action-packed day tomorrow, facing off against a lineup of formidable opponents, including the #1 ranked Brownsburg, #3 Center Grove, #6 Columbus East, #20 Heritage Hills, and conference rivals Jennings County. The highlight will be the clash between the undefeated #8 Ben Land and top-ranked opponents from Brownsburg and Heritage Hills. The stakes are high as Brownsburg fields a formidable lineup with multiple top-ranked wrestlers across weight classes. Despite a standing record of 3-2, Jeff remains undeterred, having faced tough challenges from #4 ranked Tell City and #10 Franklin Community. The upcoming matchups promise to be a test of skill, resilience, and determination for the Red Devils as they seek to further establish their dominance on the wrestling mat
