The Jeffersonville Red Devils opened their season with a strong showing at the always-tough Capitol City Classic, a tournament known for deep brackets, physical wrestling, and a postseason-level atmosphere on opening weekend. Despite bringing a young and growing roster, the Red Devils put twelve wrestlers on the podium and showed grit in every weight class. Jeffersonville was led by three finalists—James Dyer (215), Jaylen Howard (165), and Quintin Smith (157)—each finishing as tournament runners-up after impressive 2–1 performances. Sire Minggia (190) battled his way to a 3rd-place finish, and multiple wrestlers stepped up to earn critical wins throughout the day. The depth of the team was on display as the Red Devils also earned fourth-place finishes from Isaiah Gatton (150) and John Steele (132); fifth-place finishes from Gavin Grisham (285), Rodolfo Olvera (144), and Kyree Turvey (106); and sixth-place results from William Honecker (126), Elijah Lahrman (138), Jak Rose (175), and Noah Sparkman (120). Timothy Wilkins (113) rounded out the placers with a seventh-place finish. Coach Danny Struck praised the team’s early-season toughness, effort, and willingness to fight through adversity. “What I loved most today wasn’t the placements—it was the fight,” Coach Struck said. “Every single kid showed grit. We got knocked down a few times, but they kept getting back up. That’s the foundation of a great team.” Struck highlighted the leadership of the upperclassmen and the composure of the younger athletes who were competing in their first major varsity event. “This group is learning fast,” he added. “We’re going to grow a lot from this weekend. If this is our starting point, we’re going to be a dangerous team by January.” The Red Devils return to action next week as they continue building momentum into the heart of the schedule.
