The girls' and boys' cross-country squads had a fantastic showing at the Ben Davis Sectional on Saturday Oct 8. On a near perfect morning for racing, Marie Guegelmeyer lead the charge for the girls' squad, finishing 36th in a time of 23:08 for the 5k distance and grabbing an individual qualifying spot to next Saturday's Regional, a historic feat for Shortridge Girls' XC. Following that effort was Xin Yi Ni (25:41) in 57th, Natalie Carlson (25:46) in 58th, Stella Langergaard-Andersen (27:34) in 61st and Ashley Gil-Alcantara (30:32) in 63rd. Everyone notched a personal best time and together recorded the first team score in over 10 years for the girls' program. Not to be out done, the boys' squad followed the girls' effort with a strong showing of their own, lead by senior Daniel Ramirez-Herrera, who blistered the 5k course in a PR of 18:43. His 31st place effort earned him an individual spot in next week's Regional. Senior Israel Riestra was next for the squad in 67th, running a PR of 22:20, followed closely by teammate Markeyon Caldwell (23:02) in 68th. Catch Marie and Daniel in action at the Ben Davis Regional next Saturday at 10:30 and 11:30am! Go Blue Devils!
