Track & Field Opener

Girls Track & Field The girls team is off to a strong start with a 6th place finish out of 36 teams at the GVSU Indoor Meet last week. Scoring for the Saxons were Bella Friddle (1st in High Jump and 3rd in Long Jump), Caroline Randall (3rd in the 1600m), and Olivia Friddle (6th in Shot Put). Bella and Caroline both also broke their own records for indoor in high jump and the 1600m! All ladies competing had some strong performances despite being stuck inside for training due to weather. Multiple PRs and good first runs for the season. Outdoor season is here!!! GIRLS WON with a final score of 78-59. Caroline Randall and Bella Friddle both won all their events and had PRs. Olivia Friddle won pole vault, shot and discus, and got 2nd in the 100, also snagging a PR. Lilly Randall won her tennis match, then got 2nd in the 400 and 3rd in the 200. Naomi Cook won 100m hurdles and got 3rd in the 800, and got a PR. London Hammond and Emerson Leary finished the sweep of 100m hurdles, and London got 2nd in pole vault. Emerson got 2nd in high jump and 3rd in 300 hurdles. Lacy Peck got 3rd in shot put, and helped Olivia and Kim Coolidge sweep discus. Lots of 4th and 5th places finishes across the board. The ladies will run fast again Monday night at home against Delton & TK. Boys Track & Field The boys team competed against Harper Creek and lost a hard fought battle against the defending D2 team state champions. Point scorers for the boys were: Josh Grace won the high jump at 5'10, followed by Cody Seymour and Balian Marlette in 2nd and 3rd. Josh also finished 3rd in the 200. Liam Renner earned 2nd in pole vault. Logan Kimmel finished 3rd in the 400m. Jace Acker finished 3rd in the 800 with a PR of 2:16 and 3rd in pole vault. Cardale Winebrenner finished 3rd in the 110 hurdles. Joey Renner earned 3rd in the 300 hurdles. Ethan Hetrick and Matthew Shults finished 2nd and 3rd in discus. There were many more great finishes and lots of personal bests to kickoff the outdoor season off. The boys will compete on Monday at the Barry County Icebreaker Invite.
