The Raiders tennis team delivered a statement win at home on Thursday, defeating perennial powerhouse West Lafayette 4-1. Senior Emerson Mohr was the first off the court at No. 2 singles, cruising to a decisive 6-0, 6-1 victory to give the Raiders early momentum. Not long after, the junior duo of Kegan Wargo and Clemente Martinez secured another point with a steady 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles. Sophomore Zan Young followed with a strong performance at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-3, 6-1 victory to push the team’s lead to 3-0. The clinching point came from senior Henry Graham at No. 3 singles, who battled back after a slow start to pull out a three-set win, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. At No. 1 doubles, the Raiders’ team of Johnny Couture and Moti Tesfaye fought hard in a competitive match but came up short, 6-4, 6-2. With the 4-1 win, the Raiders proved they can stand tall against one of the area’s most historically dominant programs. The team looks forward to a potential rematch with West Lafayette when sectional play begins.
