The Comets Varsity football team continued their winning ways on Friday evening, steamrolling to a 56-6 win over the Addison Panthers. The Comets rushed for a school record 481 yards, led by 212 yards and three touchdowns from junior Austyn Hocter. Senior JJ Russ added 144 yards and two touchdowns on just three carries, while also breaking the school record for longest run when he ripped off a 96-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. The scoring was capped off by sophomore Carl Maynard with a 5-yard rushing touchdown in the fourth quarter, the first varsity touchdown of his career. Kolin Griffiths led a stout defense all night with 13 total tackles, with Blake Cogan adding seven tackles and two fumble recoveries. One of those fumbles was forced by Dominic Jennings, leading to the Comets final offensive touchdown of the night. Carter Ryckman was eight for eight on his extra points for the evening, completing the most well-rounded team performance of the young season for the Comets. The varsity squad will continue conference play this Friday as they travel to Napoleon to take on the Pirates in a crucial Cascades South matchup. -Coach Vinton
