HC Boys Finish 3rd at Woodrick Invite

The boys track team traveled to Munster for the Ed Woodrick Invitational on Saturday. After many great performances on the day, the team finished third, behind Regional powerhouses, Lake Central and Valparaiso. The day was highlighted by 2 school records and Rocco Lopez and Elijah Pennavaria going 1-2 in the 110 hurdles. Zumji Gofwen tied the school record in the 100 meter dash with an 11.1. The 4x100 relay team broke the previous record of 44.68 with an impressive 44.16. The team consisted of Connor Dixon, Ben Alvarado, David Murphy and Zumji Gofwen. Scoring athletes in the field events were: Lincoln Zerby (5th in shot, 6th PR in disc), Evan Marsiglio and Nate Balogun 5th and 8th in long jump-both PRs, Mason Streit 4th in pole vault (PR), and AJ Noel 7th. Rocco Lopez jumped a personal best in the high jump. In the hurdles, Rocco Lopez placed 1st in the 110s and 2nd in the 300s, both PRs. Elijah Pennavaria 2nd in the 110s and 5th in the 300s. In the sprints, Zumji Gofwen and Dominic Giglio placed 3rd and 5th in the 100. In the 400, David Murphy and Jack Connor both ran personal bests to place 3rd and 6th. Ben Alvarado and Jack Connor ran personal bests in the 200. The record- breaking 4x100 team placed 3rd. The 4x400 team of Jack Connor, Dominic Giglio, David Murphy and Zumji Gofwen placed 3rd as well. In the distance events, Logan sus ran a personal best in the 4x800 relay. Ryan Sandberg placed 5th in the 1600 with a personal best and 3rd in the 3200. Noah Hernandez ran a personal best in both the 800 and 1600, placing 6th in the 800. Chris Epting ran a personal best in the 800. The 4x800 team of Chris Epting, Bennett Duffy, Logan Sus and Luka Savich placed 4th. The team's next meet is the first NCC meet, at Highland, against Highland and Munster.
