Longview, TX — The Garland Christian Academy Lady Swords showed grit and determination Thursday night, overcoming a mid-match delay and a two-set deficit to defeat the Longview Christian School Lady Eagles in a thrilling five-set battle: 3-2. Set scores were 25-18, 18-25, 15-25, 25-15, and 15-13. GCA opened the match with confidence, taking the first set 25-18 behind strong serving and disciplined defense. But midway through the second set, play was halted for approximately 30 minutes due to a health issue involving one of the officials. The unexpected delay disrupted the Lady Swords’ rhythm, and Longview Christian seized the momentum, winning sets two and three by scores of 25-18 and 25-15. Facing a must-win situation in set four, the Lady Swords regrouped and responded with intensity. Led by lone senior Andee Sandlin, who delivered a standout all-around performance, GCA dominated the fourth set 25-15 to force a decisive fifth. The final set was a back-and-forth thriller, with both teams trading points and momentum. In the end, the Lady Swords held firm, edging out the Lady Eagles 15-13 to secure the road win. Head Coach Sarah Johnson praised her team’s resilience, saying, “It was a team win. Everyone stepped up when it mattered most, and Andee Sandlin had a great all-around game that helped carry us through.” The Lady Swords now turn their focus to district play, where they’ll open against Ovilla Christian School. First serve is set for 7:00 PM, and GCA will look to carry the momentum from Thursday’s comeback win into what promises to be a competitive district campaign.
