Garland, TX — In a match that tested their endurance and resolve, the Garland Christian Academy Lady Swords emerged victorious over the Bishop Dunne Lady Falcons in a nail-biting five-set battle, winning 3-2. This marks the first time this season the Lady Swords have gone the full distance—and closed it out. The Lady Swords came out firing in the first two sets, showcasing a dominant offensive front led by Alivia Owen, Ella Grace Wood, and senior Andee Sandlin. Their aggressive play and sharp execution gave them a 2-0 lead, leaving the Lady Falcons scrambling to respond. Set three, however, saw a shift in momentum. Garland Christian struggled to maintain their offensive rhythm, and Bishop Dunne capitalized, clawing their way back into the match. The Lady Swords continued to battle through set four, but their offensive spark seemed dimmed—until the final set. With the match on the line, the Lady Swords rediscovered their fire. Johanna deBorst stepped up with clutch plays on the offensive end, while Violet Guffey anchored the defense with poise and precision. Their efforts helped seal the win and give Garland Christian back-to-back victories for the first time this season. Coach Sarah Johnson praised her team’s resilience, saying, “This was the first time we have gone the distance and closed it out. With back-to-back wins for the first time this season, I hope that we are able to build off the momentum and look to extend it against Providence on Thursday.” The Lady Swords will look to keep the streak alive as they travel to Rockwall to face Providence Academy on Thursday, September 11th. First serve is set for 6:30 PM.
