Garland, TX — Garland Christian Academy opened its football season with a hard-fought 24-18 win over Ovilla Christian School, highlighted by a confident debut from freshman quarterback Wyatt Grubbs and a well-rounded offensive performance. Grubbs, making his first varsity start, showed poise and maturity beyond his years. The freshman quarterback led the Swordsmen with precision and calm under pressure, helping guide the team through a tightly contested matchup. Senior running back Lucas Araiza was a standout on the ground, scoring two rushing touchdowns and providing a consistent spark for the offense. His powerful runs helped Garland Christian control the tempo and wear down Ovilla’s defense. The passing game also delivered key moments. Quarterback Noah Doddy connected with Cayden Crouse for a crucial touchdown, threading the ball through tight coverage to give the Swordsmen a second-half boost. Halstead added another receiving touchdown, showcasing the depth of Garland Christian’s offensive weapons. On the defensive side, Garland Christian held firm in the final quarter, stopping Ovilla Christian’s late-game push and sealing the win with disciplined play and timely stops. Athletic Director and Head Coach Jonathan Elardo praised the team’s effort and highlighted the leadership shown by both veterans and newcomers. “Wyatt stepped up in a big way tonight,” Elardo said. “This was a total team win, and we’re proud of how our guys battled from start to finish.” With the season off to a strong start, Garland Christian Academy looks ahead with confidence, fueled by a promising mix of young talent and experienced leadership.
