On Monday night, Garland Christian Academy stepped onto the pitch for its first varsity soccer game in over two decades, marking a milestone moment for the school and its athletic program. The Swords faced the McKinney Christian Academy Mustangs in a challenging matchup and fell by a score of 9-1, but the result on the scoreboard was overshadowed by the significance of the occasion. Joshua Alvarez etched his name into GCA history by scoring the first goal of the new era, a moment that will be remembered for years to come. Head Coach Revels reflected on the importance of the night: “First, realize that we just made history. We brought varsity soccer back to GCA after 20 years. That is a win regardless of the scoreboard.” While the game presented challenges, Coach Revels praised his team’s resilience and unity: “When things got tough out there, nobody got angry at a teammate. There was no finger-pointing. You stayed together and you kept fighting for the badge. That kind of character is something you cannot coach, and it is a piece of the foundation we will build this program on.” The return of varsity soccer is more than just a game—it’s the start of a new chapter for Garland Christian Academy athletics. The Swords have laid the foundation, and the future looks bright.
