Falcons Drop a Close One in the Rain at St. John’s The Freshman Freeland Falcons traveled to St. John’s High School on Thursday, October 1, for a rain-soaked matchup that turned into a battle of field position and ball control. The Falcons controlled the football for much of the first half, possessing the ball for the first 18 minutes of the game. Despite Freeland’s early control, St. John’s struck first with a 90-yard touchdown run in the first quarter to take a 6-0 lead. Freeland answered in the second quarter. With 6:05 remaining in the half, when a half-back pass worked to perfection, Riley Blohm connected with Connor Wismer on a 20-yard touchdown pass to put the Falcons on the board. Blohm then added the two-point conversion, giving Freeland an 8-6 advantage. St. John’s responded late in the half, scoring with 1:16 remaining to regain the lead, 12-8, heading into halftime. The rain continued throughout the second half, making field conditions increasingly difficult for both teams. Neither offense was able to find the end zone over the final two quarters, and St. John’s held on for the 12-8 victory. Brandan Stamann led the Falcon offense on the ground, rushing for 95 yards on 24 carries. Blohm added 44 yards on 11 carries while also accounting for Freeland’s touchdown pass and two-point conversion. Defensively, Blohm led the Falcons with 11 tackles. Wismer added six tackles, while Sam Pionk came up with a fumble recovery for the Freeland defense. The Freshman Falcons will remain on the road when they take on Sanford-Meridian on Thursday, October 8, at 6:00 p.m.
