Varsity vs Alma Senior High School (3 - 1) Win As the sun set, the Freeland Falcons were ready to welcome Alma, looking to avenge an early-season 1-0 loss to the Panthers. Entering the week in the State Division 3 rankings, Alma held the #8 spot and Freeland was at #14, setting the stage for a high-powered showdown. It took six or seven minutes for the Falcons to find their footing, but once they did, the Freeland attack was relentless. They spent the majority of the next 33 minutes in Alma's half, forcing the Panther keeper to stay on his toes and make a leaping, diving save on a shot by Reed Bandlow. Freeland finally broke through in the 22nd minute, on a counter off an Alma corner kick. The corner was cleared by Jackson Puvalowski right to the feet of Jonas Koehler, who planted a long ball past the defense. Sam Moeller outmuscled the Alma defense and keeper to usher the ball into the goal, giving Freeland a 1-0 lead going into halftime. After the half, the field flipped sides and so did the momentum. In the 45th minute, Alma scored from distance, tying the game at 1-1. That lit a fire back under the Falcons. In the 53rd minute, Sam Moeller showed his strength again, fending off defenders in the box and banging one off the inside of the post to regain a 2-1 lead. Just three minutes later, a Freeland corner by Ian Harden was deflected back to him. The ESP kicked in when Ian then found his twin brother, Cole, for the security goal to make it 3-1. The remaining minutes were physical, but keeper Sawyer Prast stepped up to secure dangerous balls, while center backs Austin Kloha and Brady Vandaele anchored the defense. Improving to 12-3-2 on the season, the Falcons play their final home game of the season this Wednesday for Senior Night against rival Swan Valley.
