FREELAND — August 27 — The Freeland Freshman Falcons opened their season in impressive fashion Thursday at Freeland High School, defeating the Gladwin Flying G’s JV 23-0 behind a strong rushing attack and a dominant defensive performance. Freeland struck first in the opening quarter when Riley Blohm broke through for a 7-yard touchdown run. Matteo Aimar connected with Blohm on the two-point conversion to give the Falcons an early 8-0 lead. The defenses controlled the middle two quarters, and Freeland carried its 8-0 advantage into the fourth. The Falcons broke the game open in the final quarter. Blohm found Eli Senkowski for a 16-yard touchdown pass, and Aimar again connected with Blohm for the two-point conversion, extending Freeland’s lead to 16-0. Freeland added one more score when Aimar powered into the end zone on a 1-yard touchdown run. Senkowski converted the PAT to put the finishing touches on the 23-0 victory. Blohm led the Falcons’ ground attack with 90 yards on 10 carries, averaging 9.0 yards per attempt. As a team, Freeland rushed 33 times for 175 yards. The Falcon defense was equally impressive, holding Gladwin to just 33 rushing yards and keeping the Flying G’s off the scoreboard for the entire game. Colton Lubaczewski led Freeland with 7 tackles and added a fumble recovery, while Brandan Stamann recorded 6 tackles to help anchor the shutout effort. With the victory, the Freshman Falcons improve to 1-0 on the season. Freeland will hit the road for its next contest, traveling to Swan Valley to take on the rival Vikings on Wednesday, September 2, at 4:30 p.m. FINAL: Freeland 23, Gladwin 0
