Freeland opened conference play with their first home game, welcoming the Garber Dukes. Slotted in the 8th spot in the Week 1 Division 3 state rankings, the Falcons looked to continue their winning ways, having yet to drop points or concede a goal this season. Controlling the ball from the start, Freeland spent most of the match in the Dukes' half. The scoring broke loose in the 19th minute when exchange student Jon Obeso scored with a left-footed strike from the corner of the box. Just three minutes later, sophomore Ryan Brown delivered a well-placed ball into the box, where fellow sophomore Reed Bandlow finished on his first touch to double the lead. In the 28th minute, junior Jonas Koehler found the back of the net, extending the lead to 3-0. After a brief weather delay in the 30th minute, Freeland carried that 3-0 advantage into halftime. The Dukes started the second half with energy, but the Falcons eventually regained complete control. In the 60th minute, Obeso struck again with his left foot. In the 63rd minute, a beautiful free kick from sophomore Ian Harden was collected out of the air by senior Jackson Puvalowski for a strong finish, making it 5-0. Two minutes later, Ian served up another free kick, this time assisting his brother, senior Ryan Harden for his FIRST career goal. Shortly after, Puvalowski played a perfectly weighted ball from the defensive midfield to Koehler, who finished for his second goal of the night. Finally, in the 70th minute, senior Nathan Anaya delivered a corner kick that found Puvalowski for a flying header, ending the game early via the mercy rule at 8-0. The defense and keeper Sawyer Prast earned another clean sheet. The boys will head north this Thursday to face Gladwin at 5:00 PM.
