Freeland JV kicked off their season home opener, earning a 3-0 victory over Valley Lutheran behind strong possession, steady defensive play, and plenty of offensive pressure. The Falcons controlled the pace early, and Carter Kubiak helped create the first scoring opportunity, finding Jack Weiss, who fired a strong shot on goal that slipped through the goalkeeper’s hands and into the net to give Freeland a 1-0 lead. Freeland continued to apply pressure. Carter Minnis delivered a well-placed corner that Kubiak nearly connected on with a header, sending it just wide left of the goal. The Falcons struck again after Isaac Amthor took a push in the back to earn a penalty kick. Amthor stepped up and made it look easy, driving a low shot to the left and into the back of the net for a 2-0 advantage. Valley Lutheran looked to answer on a breakaway, but Lucas Sampson came up with a big defensive play, sliding in to knock the ball out of bounds and shut down the scoring threat. Freeland took a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Falcons picked up right where they left off in the second half, dominating possession and piling up shots on goal. With 15 minutes remaining, Bryce Collier connected with Kubiak, who finished the play for Freeland’s third and final goal of the night. Freeland’s defense held strong through the final whistle, completing the shutout and giving the Falcons a 3-0 victory.
