The Forest Park Boys Tennis team traveled to North Harrison on Saturday morning to compete in their annual 8 team tournament. The boys' bus left at 6:45am and the team did not get back until 8:30pm, but for good reason. The Rangers battled all day long and came out with a second place finish! The FP Tennis team has won this tournament the past two years in a row and looked to make it three, but were stopped by a very talented Salem team. With a completely different lineup from last year, Coach Hochgesang did not know what to expect. In the end, he was VERY pleased with his teams' play, and he looks forward to facing some familiar teams in the upcoming weeks. Scores from Tournament: 1 Singles : Jace Brockman (Freshman) finished in 2nd Place! Round 1: Jace beat Christian Academy 3-6, 6-0, 10-7 Round 2 : Jace beat North Harrison 7-5, 2-6, 10-7 Championship Round: Jace lost to Salem 0-6, 0-6 Jace was able to battle against 2 Juniors and 1 Senior during the day at 1 Singles and never gave up! 2 Singles: Miles Rea (Freshman) finished in 2nd Place! Round 1: Miles beat Crawford County 6-0, 6-1 Round 2: Miles beat Christian Academy 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 Championship Round: Miles lost to Salem 3-6, 1-6 Miles also competed against 2 Juniors and 1 Senior on the day and showed that he is capable of playing with anyone! 3 Singles: Clayton Roesner (Junior) finshed in 5th Place! Round 1: Clayton won due to forfeit against Crawford County Round 2: Clayton lost to Lanesville 2-6, 0-6 Round 3: Clayton lost to Christian Academy 6-8 With this being Clayton's first official matches in tennis, he battled and Coach saw much improvement! 1 Doubles: Alex Fischer (Senior) and Eli Brockman (Junior) finished in 2nd Place! Round 1: Alex and Eli beat Lanesville 6-2, 6-2 Round 2: Alex and Eli beat North Harrison 6-0, 6-0 Championship Round: Alex and Eli lost to Corydon Central 6-3, 4-6, 3-10 Alex and Eli were able to win the 2 Doubles position last year, but struggled in the 1 Doubles championship round against two Juniors at Corydon Central. 2 Doubles: Jace Betz (Freshman) and Drew Fischer (Freshman) finished in 2nd Place! Round 1: Jace and Drew won due to forfeit against Crawford County Round 2: Jace and Drew beat Christian Academy 6-3, 6-4 Championship Round: Jace and Drew lost to Salem 0-6, 1-6 Jace and Drew competed with some good teams, and showed some great teamwork and improvement! The Rangers were able to get 4 different positions in the Championship Rounds, but were all unable to finish the jobs against some good teams. With 4 Freshman, 1 newcomer to tennis Junior, and 2 returning players from last year in the Varsity Lineup, the Rangers exceeded Coach Hochgesang's goal and expectations! Wish the boys good luck in their upcoming weeks, with this week having matches on Wednesday and Thursday.
