Rangers Fall to Mater Dei in Pitcher’s Duel
By Zach Brosmer | Apr 26, 2026 10:11 AM
The Forest Park Rangers battled in a tight, low-scoring game Friday night but came up short in a 3-0 loss to Evansville Mater Dei. Mater Dei took the lead early, scoring a run in the first inning on a single. They added to their advantage in the second with a groundout that brought in another run, and extended the lead to 3-0 in the third with another run-scoring hit. Despite the early deficit, the Rangers stayed within striking distance thanks to a strong performance on the mound. Carter Jochem went the distance, pitching six innings and allowing just three runs on four hits while striking out three and walking one. His effort kept the game close and gave Forest Park a chance to respond. Offensively, the Rangers had limited opportunities but continued to compete. Jaxon Lueken and Hudson King each recorded a hit, with Lueken also creating pressure on the bases with two stolen bases. Defensively, Forest Park made plays when needed, including turning a double play to help limit further damage. In a game where both teams relied on strong pitching, timely hits proved to be the difference. The Rangers will look to bounce back on Tuesday as they host Pike Central.
