Tigers Varsity Baseball Wins HCC Outright with 5-4 Victory Over Brownsburg

The #2 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (23-4/12-1) clinched the HCC Championship outright with a 5-4 come from behind victory over Brownsburg Bulldogs. The HCC Title is the Tigers 4th championship in the past 8 seasons (2017, 2018, 2022, 2025). The Tigers scored first with a run in the 2nd. Trevor Hall led off the inning with a walk and advanced 1st to 3rd with heads up baserunning on Jase Ruggles’ sacrifice bunt. With 2 outs, Carter Strole delivered a 2-out RBI single up the middle to score Hall and give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs quickly tied the game with a run in the 3rd. Starting pitcher Owen Sanders was able to minimize the damage to just 1 run leaving runners at 2nd and 3rd with a strikeout and the bases loaded with a groundout to end the inning. The Tigers returned the blow with another run in the bottom of the 3rd. Huston Dunn doubled with 1 out and later scored on Luke Cherry’s 2-out RBI single to center. Hall followed with a 2-out single to right center, but Cherry was gunned down at the plate to end the inning. The Bulldogs took the lead at 4-2 with 3 runs in the top of the 4th. The first 5 batters of the inning reached base on an error and 4 singles chasing Sanders from the game with the bases loaded and nobody out. Relief pitcher Reid Garber worked out of the jam giving up a sacrifice fly and recording an inning ending 4-6-3 double play by Mayo Fernandez, Dunn, and Ruggles. The Tigers only put 2 balls in play, but were able to take the lead for good with 3 runs in the 5th. The Tigers were helped by 5 walks, a hit by pitch, and a wild pitch. Garber (6-0) pitched great in relief, working 3 scoreless innings and earning the win, his 6th of the season. Garber had 2 strikeouts. Owen Lukac earned his 2nd save of the season by working a 1-2-3 7th inning with a strikeout. Sanders earned a no decision pitching 3+ innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 7 hits and finishing with 3 strikeouts and 4 walks. Dunn led the Tigers offense with 2 hits, including a double, and 2 runs scored. Cherry and Strole contributed RBI singles. Hall was on base 3 times with a single, 2 walks, a run scored, and an RBI. Fernandez also picked up an RBI on a bases loaded walk. The Tigers conclude the regular season with their final HCC game at Brownsburg on Friday night at 6:30pm.
