The #3 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (9-1/4-0) completed the sweep of #10 Noblesville Millers behind Hayden Werner’s 1-hit complete game. The Tigers scored right away. Deagan Repp hit the first pitch of the game into right center field for a leadoff double. After Repp advanced to 3rd on a passed ball, Luke Cherry scored him with an RBI sacrifice fly to left field to make the score 1-0. That is how the score would stay until the 7th inning. Pinch hitter Collin Hebert led off the Tigers 7th with a 2-strike single up the middle. Brady Carman followed with a beautifully placed bunt right past the pitcher and charging 3rd baseman. The next 2 batters failed to score any Tiger runners. With 2 outs, Zander Carnahan lined the first pitch he saw to centerfield that kicked off the glove of the diving fielder for an RBI double. The 2nd run proved to be a much needed insurance run. Hayden Werner (2-0) was brilliant all night and took a no hitter into the 7th before running into trouble as his pitch count reached 90+. Werner allowed 1 runner in each of the first 3 innings (a walk in 1st, an error in 2nd, and a walk in 3rd) before retiring 9 straight in the middle innings. Another Miller base runner reached on a hit by pitch to leadoff the 6th, but he was erased when he was doubled up on a flyball. With a 2-0 lead, Werner gave up the only hit, a leadoff single to start the 7th. He struck out the next 2 batters and looked poised to complete the shutout. However, an 0-1 pitch got away from him and hit a batter, and then a 1-0 pitch got away and hit another batter to load the bases. Werner walked the next batter on a 3-2 pitch to plate the Millers 1st run. Now with the winning run on 2nd, Werner was able to finish the victory with a flyball to centerfield. Overall, Werner threw a 1-hit complete game with 10 strikeouts to earn his 2nd victory of the season. Offensively, Mayo Fernandez had a triple, Repp and Carnahan both had doubles, and Hebert and Carman each had singles. The Tigers return to action early Saturday morning as they travel to Kokomo’s Championship Park to play Greenfield-Central at 10am in the Bullpen x Prep Baseball Indiana Series.
