The #7 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (5-0/2-0) came from behind again to walkoff #17 Zionsville Eagles 2-1 and complete the HCC series sweep. The Tigers offense struggled all night long and were held hitless until the final frame. Down 1-0 with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th, Trevor Hall hustled out a 2-strike infield single to break up the no hitter and start the Tigers rally. Carter Strole followed with a walk to put runners at 1st and 2nd. Senior Jase Ruggles provided the first heroic highlight with a game tying RBI double to left to score Hall from 2nd. With runners on 2nd and 3rd, the Eagles elected to intentionally walk Mayo Fernandez to load the bases. Senior Brady Carman became the final hero lining the first pitch he saw over the left fielder’s head to score Strole from 3rd for the walkoff victory and ensuing dogpile celebration. Lost in the Tigers’ offensive struggles was Hayden Werner’s brilliant performance on the mound. Werner kept the Tigers in the game by holding the Eagles scoreless for the first 5 innings. The Eagles were able to manufacture an unearned run in the 6th to take the lead and set up the Tigers exciting 7th inning. Werner pitched 6 innings in the no decision allowing 6 hits while striking out 6. Owen Lukac (1-0) pitched a scoreless 7th and earned the victory in relief. In addition to legging out an infield single and scoring the tying run, right fielder Trevor Hall provided early defensive heroics by throwing out a runner at the plate in the 1st inning. This was Hall’s 4th outfield assist in the first 5 games of the season, which has already tied the school record for outfield assists in a season. The Tigers return to action on Saturday when they host Mt. Vernon for a doubleheader starting at 11am.
