Tigers Varsity Baseball Completes Comeback and Sweeps DH from Carroll

The #7 Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (3-0/0-0) completed the sweep of #20 Carroll Chargers with an 8-3 win in Game 1 and an exciting back-and-forth come-from-behind 16-14 win in Game 2. In Game 1, the Tigers jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead after Deagan Repp led off the bottom of the 1st inning with a triple into the right field corner. Huston Dunn followed with an RBI sacrifice fly to plate Repp, and the Tigers never looked back. The Tigers would add 3 runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings and an insurance run in the 6th. Dunn had 2 RBI singles, and Trevor Hall delivered his own RBI single. Overall, Deagan Repp led the offense going 3-3 with a walk, stealing 4 bases, and scoring 4 runs. Dunn finished 2-2 with a sacrifice fly, a hit by pitch, and a team high 3 RBI. Luke Cherry and Brady Carman both contributed 2 hits in the game. Hayden Werner (1-0) earned his first victory of the season with a quality start on the mound. Werner threw 4 innings, allowed 1 earned run on 2 hits, while striking out 3. Quinn Distler pitched a solid inning in relief striking out 1 and allowing only 1 hit and 1 unearned run. Jase Ruggles earned his first save of the season pitching the final 1.2 innings of the game. Ruggles relieved Grant Gearhart with 1 out in the 6th and inherited runners at 2nd and 3rd. Ruggles left the runners on base with back-to-back strikeouts to end the inning. Ruggles pitched a scoreless 7th inning finishing the game with 3 strikeouts. Game 2 turned into a heavy weight offensive fight. The Chargers finished the game with 14 runs on 15 hits, but the Tigers were a little bit better with 16 runs on 17 hits. The game went back-and-forth with both teams delivering big innings late. Trailing 6-4 in the bottom of the 5th, the Tigers sent 11 batters to plate and scored 6 runs to take a 10-6 lead. Collin Hebert delivered a 2-run single to right centerfield to tie the game. Two batters later, Owen Lukac knocked a 3-run double to take the lead. Huston Dunn would follow with an RBI single to score Lukac. The Chargers would not go away and retaliated with an 8-run 6th inning to take back the lead 14-10. With their backs against the wall, the Tigers once game came out swinging. Trevor Hall led off the inning with a single and proceeded to steal 2nd. Jase Ruggles followed with an RBI single to score Hall. Jace Johnson knocked a single in the hole at short to put runners at 1st and 3rd. Hebert continued his heroics, this time with a 2-run triple passed a diving centerfielder to cut the deficit to 1 run. Pinch runner Vincent Pecoraro would score the tying run on an errant back pick throw to 3rd from the catcher. Lukac once again delivered the go-ahead knock with an RBI double down the right field line to score courtesy runner Brady Carman. Zander Carnahan scored Lukac on an RBI sacrifice fly for an insurance run and the final score of 16-14. Offensively, 7 Tigers had amulti-hit game. Hall and Luke Cherry led the way with 3 hits each. Hebert and Lukac both had 2 clutch hits leading to 4 RBI each. Dunn, Carnahan, and Ruggles all had 2 hits and 2 RBI. The Tigers used 6 pitchers on the mound: Austin Conley, Carter Strole, Osney Oberto, Zach Mason, Grant Wolf, and Reid Garber. Wolf (1-0) earned the win in 0.2 innings of relief. Garber picked up his 1st save of the season throwing a scoreless 7th. Garber struck out 1 and allowed 1 hit in the final frame. The Tigers return to action on Monday when they host Plainfield at 6pm.
