Fishers JV2 Silver Tigers (9-9-1) earned a gritty extra-inning win over Brownsburg on Wednesday, riding strong pitching, clean defense, and timely hitting to a 3-1 victory. In a game where runs were hard to come by, the Tigers stayed patient and continued to battle until finally breaking through late. Fishers threatened right away in the first inning when Landon Sanders singled and moved into scoring position, but the Brownsburg starter worked out of trouble to keep the game scoreless. Eli Engebretson got the start on the mound for the Tigers and matched that effort early, tossing two scoreless innings while working around walks and keeping Brownsburg off balance. The Tigers turned one of the biggest defensive plays of the game in the second inning when Nate Birsa, Alex Stiefel, and Sanders combined on a smooth double play to erase a Brownsburg threat. Both teams continued trading scoreless innings as pitching dominated the middle portion of the game. Brownsburg finally broke through in the fourth after a walk and single helped create pressure before a groundout brought home the game’s first run. Fishers nearly answered immediately in the top half when Isaac Repp singled and Stiefel ripped a double, but Brownsburg cut down the tying run at the plate to preserve the 1-0 lead. The Tigers kept applying pressure and finally broke through in the sixth. Dawson Gustin sparked the inning with a triple into right field, and after a walk to Kyle Wheeler, Stiefel delivered again with a hard ground-ball single to score Gustin and tie the game at 1-1. Fishers had a chance for more in the inning, but Brownsburg turned a double play to escape further damage. From there, the Tigers’ pitching staff took over. John Frank delivered two scoreless innings in relief, working around traffic and getting key outs to keep the game tied. Ryan Storm then slammed the door late, striking out one over two shutout innings while allowing no hits. Brownsburg threatened in the seventh with a pair of walks, but Storm escaped the jam and kept the momentum on the Fishers side. The breakthrough finally came in the eighth. Mason Walker started the inning with a double to left field and later came around to score when Reed Grampp lined a single into center field to put the Tigers ahead 2-1. Moments later, Fishers added an insurance run in aggressive fashion as Kellen Battershield stole home to extend the lead to 3-1. The Tigers closed things out in the bottom half, finishing off a complete team win. Fishers collected nine hits in the game, with Stiefel leading the way by going 3-for-4 while also making several key defensive plays. Walker created havoc on the bases with three stolen bases, and the Tigers played a clean defensive game without committing an error. In a tightly contested matchup where every run mattered, Fishers stayed composed, played fundamentally sound baseball, and came through when it mattered most.
