Tigers Varsity Baseball Defeat Franklin Central 7-2

The Fishers Tigers Varsity Baseball Team (12-12/7-4) jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead as the first 5 batters reached base in the bottom of the 1st. The Tigers added 3 more runs in the 3rd and cruised to a 7-2 victory over Franklin Central Flashes. Ethan Buelt led off the bottom of the 1st with a double down the left field line. Owen Lukac followed with an infield single. Carter Strole delivered an RBI double to right centerfield to score Buelt. David Pina reached on error and scored Lukac for an RBI. Isaac Fernandez followed with an RBI infield single. In the 3rd inning, Lukac reached on an error but was thrown out advancing to 3rd on Carter Strole’s single to left field. Pina followed with a walk to put runners at 1st and 2nd. In the middle of Fernandez’s at bat, Strole and courtesy runner Collin Bumps completed a double steal to advance to 2nd and 3rd. Fernandez lined a 2-2 pitch into right centerfield for a 2-run triple. Vincent Pecoraro picked up an RBI when Fernandez scored on his sacrifice fly to centerfield. The Flashes finally pushed across a run in the 4th to cut the lead to 6-1, but the Tigers immediately responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 7-1. Pina lined an RBI double down the left field line to score Buelt who had walked earlier in the inning. Strole led the Tigers with a 3-3 night that included a double, an RBI, 2 runs scored, and a stolen base. Fernandez also contributed a multi-hit game with his 2-3 night that included a triple, 3 RBI, and a run scored. Buelt, Lukac, Pina, and Asher Nelson all added 1 hit. Hayden Werner (2-0) earned the victory on the mound by throwing 5 innings. Werner allowed 1 earned run on 8 hits while striking out 9 and not allowing any walks. Strole pitched the final 2 innings to earn his 2nd save of the season. Strole did not allow an earned run, gave up 0 hits, and struck out 3. The Tigers return to action Friday night when they travel to Franklin Central to complete the HCC series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30pm.
