STATE FINALS BOUND! The MHSAA Division 3 Regional Tournament was held this morning at the Scenic Golf and Country Club in Pigeon, Michigan. 87 golfers from 18 high schools competed and your Durand Railroaders finished in a tie for 2nd place and are headed to the state finals! Junior Travis Hull and Sophomore Linkin Armour had our two best scores with a +12 score of 83, tied for 14th overall. Junior Kyler Hatchett and Freshman Carson Drury were just one stroke behind, shooting 84 each tied for 17th overall. Junior Brody Demo carded a 106. Hull made par on 9 holes and shot a 39 on the back 9. Armour made birdie on 2 holes, including a chip-in birdie on his final hole, to go along with 6 pars. He shot a 39 on the front side. Hatchett shot a 42 on each side and had a hot streak where he made par on 9 of 11 straight holes. Drury also shot a 42 on each side, made one birdie and 7 pars. Demo made par on 2 holes. The day began as we left DHS at 5:30am and made the 2 hour trek to the top of the thumb. We were in 1st or 2nd place for most of the morning, slid to 5th in the early afternoon, but fought back to 2nd place where we finished in a tie for 2nd. The Division 3 State Finals are June 5th and 6th at Bedford Valley, site of NCAA Division I, II, and III events in the past. The players will shoot 18 holes each of the two days to compete for team and individual state championships. This is the first state finals appearance for Durand Boys Golf since the 2008 team qualified as a team!
