The Dexter Athletic Department recognizes outstanding Dexter student-athletes with the Athlete of the Month program. Each month, student-athletes who have shown a combination of outstanding performance, leadership, and/or exemplary effort will be recognized. Head coaches make nominations for their student-athlete(s), then recipients are selected by a committee of Dexter administrators. Congratulations to our September Athletes of the Month! CROSS COUNTRY - COEN HILL Senior cross country runner Coen Hill has established himself as one of the top distance runners in Dexter history through an impressive combination of dedication, determination, and a thoughtful approach to racing. After finishing his freshman season with a 5K personal best of 18:09, Coen has steadily climbed the ranks of Dexter's all-time best runners. He improved to 16:18 as a sophomore before demonstrating remarkable consistency as a junior, running 15:34 on three separate occasions. This September, Coen took another significant step forward, clocking an outstanding 15:20 to move into fifth place on Dexter's all-time Cross Country leaderboard. According to Head Coach Nate Lamb, “Coen's success is impressive not simply because of how fast he runs, but how intelligently he competes. He approaches each race with a plan, carefully studying courses, understanding the competition, and making strategic decisions that put him in position to succeed.” His preparation and racing instincts have helped him finish among the top seven runners in all but one meet this season. Coen's progression is a testament to the value of consistent effort, patience, and a willingness to learn and improve. He has developed from a promising freshman into one of the most accomplished runners in Dexter history, setting an outstanding example for his teammates of what can be achieved through commitment and purposeful preparation. CHEER - KEAGAN HAMPSTEAD Senior cheerleader Keagan Hampstead is an exceptional athlete and standout leader who sets the gold standard for dedication both on and off the competition mat. Head Coach Amy Philage said, “as a hard-working team captain she leads by example, motivating her peers with her positive energy and relentless work ethic. Her commitment is undeniable, highlighted by her perfect attendance record, proving that she never misses a chance to support her team.” A stellar student, she is an active member of the National Honor Society. Keagan's passion for the sport extends deep into her community, where she generously gives back by helping coach the next generation of athletes within the Dexter Youth Cheer Program. With her remarkable skills, natural leadership ability, and fierce loyalty to her teammates, she has her sights set high and fully intends to continue her journey by cheering at the college level after graduation. Congratulations on being selected as Dexter's September Athletes of the Month, Coen and Keagan!
