Knights Soccer teams are mirroring each other to start their seasons. After losing their openers against very good opponents, both the boys and girls varsity soccer teams have won three straight games, including 2 shutouts each. On back-to-back nights, DeMotte Christian soccer beat Kouts by 5 goals, the boys on Thursday (5-0) and the girls on Friday (7-2). Saturday they each earned their second win of the season and on Tuesday night, they each took on and defeated Rensselaer. The boys' squad has been led in scoring by senior Chase Burlingham (8 goals), with a lot of contributors getting the ball up the field to put him in position to score. On the twelve goals this season, there have been six assists, evenly spread among the offense. The defense has also been impressive the past three games, only giving up one goal during that stretch. On the girls side, there has been no shortage of scoring as they've found the back of the net 30 times in the last three games. They avenged their loss to 2-3 loss to Kouts from last year with a 7-2 home opener win before beating East Chicago and Rensselaer on the road in back-to-back shutouts. Cassie Nanninga is leading girls scorers with 11 goals while 6 other Knights have multiple goals on the season. The combination of senior leadership and experience and the athleticism from the underclassmen have given the Knights great depth that the girls soccer program doesn't often see. The Knights look to build good habits and teamwork throughout the season and take advantage of opportunities to improve their gameplay, no matter the competition level. Both Knights teams will face tough tests in their next matchups, with the girls traveling to Culver Community on Thursday and the boys facing off against Andrean at home on Saturday at noon.
