It's been an eventful start to the season for the Demotte Christian boys basketball team. Coming off the program's third sectional and first MWC conference title, Knights fans knew it would be a new-look team taking the floor in 2024-25. Still, expectations are high, with sectional realignment and some returning talent on the roster. On the Tuesday before Thanksgiving the Knights opened their season at Hebron, a very tough road test for a young team in its first game. DMC lost 67-47, giving up 25 points in the first quarter and never recovering from that deficit. Tony Bos came an assist shy of a triple double (15 points, 10 rebounds, 9 assists), despite a cold shooting night. Ben Eisses had 9 points on three made three-pointers, Titus Terpstra scored 9 on 4/6 shooting, and Tanyon Bakker added 8 while recovering from a dislocated finger. The Knights bounced back the following Tuesday with a road win at Oregon-Davis. Despite another slow start, DMC emerged 60-38 victors. Tony Bos scored 36 points in the win, becoming just the fourth Knight ever to hit that mark (Ben Lins three times, Jim Zeldenrust in 2003, and Gavin Herrema in 2019). Bos shot 15/23 from the field including 5/10 from behind the three-point arc. Tanyon Bakker scored 13 including two threes, and Ben Eisses hit two three-pointers, reaching five on the season. Bos, Bakker, and Titus Terpstra combine for 14 steals as DMC scored 28 points off of Oregon-Davis turnovers. After the postponement of the Kouts game due to illness, the boys are back in action on Thursday night against Heritage Christian. Two more home games will follow, North Newton on the 14th, and Hammond Academy on the 20th. While injuries continue to plague the Knights in the early part of their season, the boys are hoping to build some momentum and take a winning streak into Christmas break. Ethan McCammack-led teams have earned a reputation of peaking at the right time, so DMC fans know that this team will only get better as we inch closer to sectional time.
