It’s sectional week! The Knights boys basketball team will face Hammond Academy of Science Tech on Tuesday at 6:00 pm at Kouts High School. The red-hot Knights finished the regular season on a 7-game winning streak, highlighted by victories over Winamac, Marquette Catholic, and Boone Grove on senior night. DMC has scored 68 points per game over the seven games, and won by an average of 18 points. With this run, they’ve clinched the third-most wins in school history, at 16-7, and earned a share of the Midwest Conference title with a 6-1 conference record. DeMotte has been led by senior Luke Terpstra, whose recent performances have vaulted him into the school’s top five in all-time scoring at 838 career points, and sophomore Tony Bos, who averaged 12 .7 points over the Knights’ win streak, while shooting a staggering 50% from behind the three-point line. Sectional 49 will kick off on Tuesday night at Kouts High School, where DeMotte will face off against the Hawks from Hammond Academy, who finished their year at 9-12. The Knights already boast a regular season victory over HAST, who they defeated 63-42 on December 15. Waiting for the victor of Tuesday’s game will be the Tri-Township Tigers (3-19), who the Knights hope to see on Friday night… exactly two weeks after the regular season meeting between the two on January 16th, which DeMotte Christian won 69-49. On the other side of the bracket, the 18-5 Morgan Township Cheerokees will face the winner of Kouts (10-11) and Washington Township (11-9). DMC fans may recall last year’s battle between the Knights and Cherokees in the sectional semifinals, which ended in a 70-66 win for Morgan despite Jacob Miller’s 29 points. The Knights will be looking to avenge that loss should the two meet again in the championship game Saturday night. Coming off a conference title and impressive winning streak, there’s no question the Knights have their sights set on a formidable postseason run. The pursuit of the program’s third sectional title begins on Tuesday night at 6:00.
