Baseball Secures Back-to-back Sectional Titles

The Covenant Warrior baseball team is back-to-back sectional champions for the first time in program history! The weekend rains pushed the start time of Monday's semifinal game back to 2 p.m., but the change did little to rattle the Warriors. They easily moved past the Riverside Argonauts, 14-2. They were able to keep the momentum going in the 6 p.m. championship game against the University Trailblazers, putting up seven runs in the top of the first inning. University would cut the lead to one after scoring three runs in both the second and third innings. Blake Cope's two-run home run in the fifth proved to be the decisive blow, and a gutsy performance on the mound from junior Nolan Guzman kept the Trailblazer offense from making too much more noise. After some late Warrior insurance runs, the final score was 13-8. Covenant advances to the regional round to be played at Park Tudor on Saturday, June 1 at 1 p.m. They face the winner of IHSAA Sectional #44, the Greencastle Tiger Cubs. The Warriors were able to defeat Greencastle in a May 10 regular season game at CCHS, 2-1. Tickets are $10 and will become available at https://ihsaa.eventlink.com/Tickets. Cash will also be accepted at the gate. Let's go Warriors!
