For many of the racers on the men’s cross country team, Tuesday’s meet at Meyer Broadway Park was their first ever 5K. On arguably the toughest course of the season, the new additions to the team had an amazing first performance. The top two racers, junior Aaron Hofmeiser and freshman Gabe Kline, both earned a top-10 medal in their grade level. Aaron’s team-leading time of 19-minutes and 13-seconds was 14th overall and the 6th fastest junior time. Gabe’s time of 21-minutes and 23-seconds was 31st overall and the 5th fastest freshman time of the race. Three other newcomers Brennan Wright, Quinn Maxwell, and Frank Catanzarite all raced very well and had a nice start to their cross country careers. The next two to cross the finish line for the Falcons, after Aaron and Gabe, were seniors Derek Sonnevil and Brock Warren, both of whom ran well faster on the course than they had in either of the past two seasons. Junior David Ledden was the 5th finisher on the Falcons’ team. Constantine girls cross country team traveled to Three Rivers last night to compete in the The Big Hill Invite. All 8 ladies ran well, for such a tough hilly course. As a team they finished 4th out of 7 scoring teams, 11 teams overall. Five of the eight runners received medals. Anna Davidhizar was the 3rd fastest sophomore of the race, 13th overall, with a time of 24 minutes and 2 seconds. Allie Burns was next, the 5th fastest sophomore, 16th overall, with a time of 24 minutes and 40 seconds. Paytin Featherstone earned herself a medal as the 8th fastest senior, 22nd overall. Eden Huser Company ran her first high school cross country race, finishing 27th overall and earning a medal for the 9th fastest sophomore. Delilah Zuniga was the 10th fastest junior of the race with a time of 28 minutes and 17 seconds. Although Sofia Avila did not medal, she took an impressive two minutes and nine seconds off her time from this same race last year, with a time of 27 minutes and 1 second. Ava Muncie and Tessa Bienz competed in the JV race. They both ran impressive races. Ava took off one minute and fifty three seconds off her time from this race last year. Tessa ran her first high school cross country race, finishing with a time of 30 minutes and 8 seconds. It was a great start to the season and we look forward to seeing how much faster times are in the second race of the season, on Friday when we run Under the Lights.
