The CMS boys soccer team traveled to play the Lapel Bulldogs on Saturday. Lapel has a co-ed soccer program so the Spartans blended their roster with six players from the CMS girls team to match the Bulldogs roster. Connersville came out on top in a tough game 4-0. The game started off very competitive with both teams possessing the ball and working it around the pitch. A few early saves from shot stopper Ethan Steward kept the match even as Lapel looked dangerous. The Spartans achieved the breakthrough when Jaxon Myers jumped on a pass from Bentley Rowe to start the scoring. CMS girls player Charli Corbitt returned the favor to Rowe as she feed him into the box and assisted the second goal. Myers finished off the first half scoring as he slotted home his second goal from a nice cross by Noah Richards. The defensive line starred in the game led by Madison Welter, Lawson Wood, and David Lopez. The trio routinely cleared the ball from the danger area to keep the pressure off the goalie Steward. The Spartans added one more goal in the second half as Robby House scored from a free kick assisted by Jaxon Myers. “The team stepped up to a big challenge and their quality shined through. It was most of these kids first time playing on an artificial turf surface, and we didn’t have a joint practice or scrimmage with the girls team before joining together for this game,” Coach Richardson. “The passing and ball movement was seamless like they had been all playing together for years.”
