Girls tennis controls Richmond

The Lady Spartans hosted the Lady Red Devils of Richmond in a Thursday night matchup. Before play even began, Connersville held a 1–0 advantage after Richmond was forced to forfeit at No. 2 doubles. Despite a few early miscues, the Spartans quickly took control and never looked back, sweeping the match 5–0 to improve their record to 8–4. At No. 1 singles, Sophia Starr defeated Taytem Rivera 6–2, 6–0. Bella Starr followed with a 6–0, 6–2 win over Liliana Hiltner at No. 2 singles. Amielya Mays delivered a dominant 6–0, 6–0 victory against Sadie Penrod at No. 3 singles. In doubles action, Cam Butts and Trinitee Steele earned a 6–4, 6–0 win over Lauren Howard and Makayla Pruett at No. 1 doubles. In junior varsity play, Addy Storms defeated Bristol Pruett 6–1. It’s a busy week ahead for the Spartans. They travel to Batesville on Monday, May 4 for an EIAC matchup with the Lady Bulldogs at 5 p.m. On Tuesday, May 5, Connersville returns home to host the Lady Tigers of Hagerstown at 5 p.m. The Spartans are back in action Thursday, May 7, hosting EIAC opponent Lawrenceburg Lady Tigers for Senior Night, also scheduled for 5 p.m. Junior varsity will take the court Friday, May 8, welcoming Blue River Valley for a 5 p.m. start. The week concludes Saturday, May 9, with the four-team “A Serve To Remember” Invitational, featuring Connersville, Franklin County, Hauser, and Lapel. Matches begin at 9 a.m.—a great opportunity to enjoy a full day of tennis and festivities.
