The Connersville Lady Spartans hit the road to face Centerville’s Lady Bulldogs in challenging conditions, with strong, gusting winds affecting play throughout the Tuesday night. Both teams battled not only each other but also the elements on both sides of the net, making consistency difficult. It took time for players to adjust, and even then, clean execution remained a challenge. Adapting to adversity is part of tennis, and Connersville managed to make just enough adjustments in fundamentals and aggressiveness to edge out a determined Centerville squad, securing a 3–2 victory in a match that could have gone either way. At No. 1 singles, Sophia Starr faced Ellie Cox in a tightly contested match that went to a third set. Cox ultimately prevailed, defeating Starr 3–6, 6–4, 6–3. Bella Starr earned a solid win at No. 2 singles, defeating Myleigh Hartman 6–3, 6–3. At No. 3 singles, Amielya Mays struggled to find her rhythm, falling 0–6, 1–6 to Madi Fralick. In doubles play, the No. 1 team of Cam Butts and Trinitee Steele secured a 6–4, 6–2 win over Addie Shipman and Kami Johnson. The No. 2 doubles duo of Maddie Harrison and Ella Miller added another point with a 6–3, 6–4 victory against Hania Lioka and Reese Marsh. In junior varsity action, Cat Graves won at No. 1 singles, defeating Kinley McCord 6–2. Frances Kelly fell 4–6 to Kendall Nelson at No. 2 singles. Payton Dice and Dani Abrams dominated at No. 3 and No. 4 singles, each winning 6–0, 6–1. In doubles, Sophie Neal and Tessa Kelley won 6–1 over Lena Meredith and Ella Rose, while Lorelei Hughes and Madison Smith fell 0–6. Ella Poe and Addy Storms also dropped their match 2–6. With the win, the Lady Spartans improved to 4–2 on the season, while the junior varsity squad moved to 3–2–1. Connersville returns to action Thursday, April 23, traveling north on State Road 1 to face Lincoln at 5 p.m. They will then compete in the New Castle Invitational on Saturday, April 25, beginning at 9 a.m. The Spartans’ next home match is scheduled for Monday, April 27, when they host Lawrenceburg at 5 p.m.
